Conductor Sizing Study Guide
Conductor sizing is a sequence of checks rather than one table lookup: determine the load, establish the ampacity basis, apply installation conditions, respect equipment limitations, coordinate protection, and check voltage drop separately.
CEC conductor study commonly begins in Section 4 and then branches into the section governing the specific equipment or load.
- Start with required load current before choosing a conductor table value.
- Consider conductor material, temperature, installation method, and current-carrying conductor count.
- Respect equipment and termination temperature limitations.
- Keep voltage drop separate from the ampacity check.
- Verify overcurrent protection and any circuit-specific Code rules independently.
