Start/Stop Motor Control Circuit Guide
Three-wire start/stop motor control is a useful ladder-logic pattern for exam preparation because it connects a momentary Start command, a Stop path, an auxiliary holding contact, protective contacts, and a contactor coil.
Read the rung as logic: identify the output coil, find related contacts, separate series conditions from parallel holding branches, and keep the control circuit distinct from the motor power circuit.
- Recognize the purpose of the seal-in or holding branch.
- Understand why releasing Stop does not create a new Start command in the basic pattern.
- Use device labels to connect coils and associated contacts on a ladder diagram.
- Treat interlocks and permissives as part of the series logic.
- Use this material for schematic reasoning rather than field servicing instructions.
